Verna Lavonne Blamer's Obituary
Verna Lavonne Blamer, age 92 was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 27, 1933, to the late Earl and Henrietta (McKay) West and passed away on November 2, 2025. Along with her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband Donald "Donnie" Blamer and a daughter-in-law, Annette Blamer. Survivors include her three children, Donald "Don" Blamer, Rick (Susan) Blamer, and Susan Borges; three grandchildren, Jacob "Jake" (Debi) Borges, Nikolas "Nik" Borges, and Lorna Borges; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Dylan, Rhett, and Hendrix; several nieces and nephews.
Verna was a strong sassy independent woman. She raised her three children on her own since they were young and even drove across country by herself. One of her best trips was to Puerto Rico with family. She was a wonderful cook, baked the best pies and crotched beautiful blankets. On top of it all, she beat breast cancer, survived hip surgery at 91 and exceeded her timeline with kidney disease by 10 months.
Verna was retired from Howmet after over 35 years of service. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Gathering and Luncheon will be held at Shoreline Memorial Services, Whitehall Chapel, located at 816 South Mears Ave. in Whitehall on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will be next to her husband Donnie in Hart Cemetery.
