Vikki L. Shonkwiler's Obituary
Vikki Shonkwiler, age 67, passed away on Saturday, September 21st, 2024. She was born on July 4th, 1957, in Richmond, IN to Jerry D. Porter and Carolyn V. (Ellis) Porter. Both parents preceded her in death along with several other aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. She had a feisty spirit and was a fighter until the end when the cancer spread and overtook her earthly body. We are at peace knowing she is reunited with her Lord and Savior.
Vikki graduated from Indiana University in 1980... "Go IU!" She moved to Muskegon, Michigan shortly after and remained there the rest of her life. She is survived by her husband, James M. Shonkwiler; daughters, Misha (Darrell) Lucus, Kayleigh (Dacoda) Qualley; grandchildren, Jax Qualley, Griffin Qualley; sisters, Kim (Ted) Carr, Patricia Andrews, nieces: Angela Gilpin, Kimberly Johnson, Jayden Rogers, aunts, uncle, many cousins, and many great friends
She was a longtime member of Church of God United in Muskegon, Michigan, where she wore many hats by helping serve in the kitchen, on the board, and the finance team. She loved to spend time reading the Bible, going down to Unity Music Fest EVERY summer, and scrapbooking/crafting. Vikki loved to play cards. A couple of her favorite games were Euchre and Shanghai Rummy. She was part of a Euchre club for many years where she met a lot of amazing women. She also loved to cook homemade meals...some of our favorites were chicken & rice, rump roast with mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuits and sausage gravy, and spaghetti. She loved to make someone a card to celebrate their special occasion. She loved just doing life with people and always welcoming them into the family. There was always a space for you at the table whenever you wanted.
She retired from Eagle Alloy Inc in October 2023. She loved the people and her job. She wore many hats there. If you needed something or to figure something out, she could likely help.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on November 16th at Church of God United, 1630 Harvey Street Muskegon, Michigan 49442
Memorial Contributions may be directed to "Church of God United" and/or "American Cancer Society".
She will be greatly missed by any and all who knew her. Heaven gained an angel, and she is now watching over all of us.
