William "Bill" C. Vanderweele Sr.'s Obituary
William "Bill" C. Vanderweele Sr. was born April 5, 1929 and died at 92 on May 20, 2021. William was a loving husband of 66 years to Elizabeth, father to Linda (John) Brevick, Nancy (Mark) Thorne, and William Jr. (Lori), Grandfather to Julie (David) Rogers, Justin (Melissa) Brevick, Austin Vanderweele (d), Braden Vanderweele, Steven Thorne, and Holden (Julia) Vanderweele, Great Grandfather to four. Son of the late James and Glenys (Raynor) Vanderweele. William's brother Glenn as well as his sisters Betty, and Shirley have passed away.
William was born in Highland Park, Michigan but moved to Muskegon in his youth graduating from the Muskegon Heights school system. William enlisted in the US Air Force (Staff Sargent) and served for four years during the Korean War. After military service he ran a successful lumber business (Cash Way Lumber in Muskegon, Ludington, and Holland) with his father James and brother Glenn for 33 years.
William was a long time North Muskegon resident, spending Winters in Dunedin, Florida where Elizabeth was raised. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Masons, Elks, Eagles, and American Legion in Muskegon. William loved his family, the lumber business, and golfing. He golfed primarily at the Muskegon Country Club, White Lake Golf Club, and Timber Greens in New Port Richey, Florida.
A Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the First Congregational Church, 1201 Jefferson Street, Muskegon
Graveside Services for Bill have been held in Laketon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a memorial contribution to the Community Foundation for Muskegon County (Austin Vanderweele Norse Football) or The First Congregational Church.
