William H. Gibbs Jr.'s Obituary
William Harcourt Gibbs Jr. age 87 was born in Shelby, Michigan on July 29, 1934, and passed away at home on October 7, 2021. William was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Gibbs Sr., Maxine Gibbs, and twin brothers in infancy. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Joyce Arlene (Schiller) Gibbs; children, Deborah (Tom) Manthei, Gordon Gibbs, Rebecca (Gerry) Osborn, Greg (Dee Oswald) Gibbs; stepbrother, Louis (Barb) Gibbs and stepsister, June Halgren; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren.
William was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He dearly loved being with his family. He was a life member of the White Lake Eagles Aerie #3214 and American Legion Post #69. He loved to play cards, fishing, and watching sports with family and friends. William enjoyed working on his stamp collection that he started with his mother. He was active in the Montague Showboat as a "Deck Hand". He started his career working as a lab technician at Dupont and later was self-employed, then retired from Midstate Security.
William and Joyce are members at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling Street in Montague where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Peter Omogo officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Montague. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. James Catholic Church.
