Fredrick Lewis Unger's Obituary
Fredrick Lewis Unger, age 98 was born on November 30, 1927, in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Clarence and Irene Unger and passed away on March 6, 2026. Along with his parents Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Unger in 2014; in-laws, Theodore and Emma LaRue; sisters, Priscilla Newman and Shirley Plitcha; son-in-law, Michael Kaffenberger Sr. Survivors include his children, Tammy Kaffenberger, Lori (Doug) Potter, Tim Unger, Michelle (Tim) Anderson, Greg (Carol) Unger, Maryann (Melvin) Twiest, and Michael (Steve) Unger; grandchildren, Nichole (Shannon) Pomeroy, Samantha (Tyler) Poston, Hunter Anderson, Mike (Erica) Kaffenberger Jr., Patrick (Jennifer) Unger, Heather (Rik Daniel) Guenther, Theresa (Neil) Wadland, John (Cari) Perez, Jamie (Lee) Fortin-West; Great-Grandchildren, Sydney & Emerson Pomeroy, Aaliyah Welch, Donavan & Nova Unger, Penelope & Charlotte Genther, Autumn & Odalis Perez, Lily (Matthew) Stone, Logan & Gage Wadland, Katlyn Kaffenberger, Meagan (Ben) Kahler, Leyland DeCheney, P.J. Mitchell; Great-Great-Grandchildren, Marley Madison, Everly Fortin-West, Evalynn, Emmit Stone, Hayley, Chandler, Sunny and Mylee Kahler.
Fred retired from Anaconda Wiring, Mercy Hospital, and he delivered flowers for Chalet Floral until he was 80 years old. Fred loved to spend time with his family, he enjoyed camping, long car rides and listening to his music and socializing with everyone. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Christian Care for the love and care that they gave to Fred during his time with them.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Shoreline Memoria Services, 137 E. Laketon Ave. Muskegon on Saturday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering and Luncheon at the Fruitport Eagles, located at 3354 S. Dangl Road, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
