James C. Thornton's Obituary
James "Jim Bob" C. Thornton, age 77 was born on January 5, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Ira and Gerty Thornton and was joyfully received into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ on December 24, 2024. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher; grandson, Eric; and a brother, Michael; brother-in-law, John Beerman.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Patricia "Patty" Thornton; children, Shanon (Bill) Rederstorf, Anthony Thornton, and Joseph (Brenda) Thornton; grandchildren, Billy (Misty), Aaron (Jordan), Faith, Alicia (John), Anthony II, Amanda (Tyler), Grace (Kyle), Jayce and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Avery, Elise, Grey, Teddy, Daniel, Austyn, Archer, Ashton, Atreyu, River, Rhett, Navy, Annabelle, Kenzington, Kynlee, and another one on the way; siblings, Carole Beerman, and Robert (Maryann) Thornton; many nieces and nephews.
Jim Bob served in the United States Navy with 20 years of service which included serving during the Vietnam War. After his service in the Navy, he worked as a pipefitter for Local #174 until his retirement. His life's passion was serving others, ministering the gospel, first as a Navy Chaplain and later through the Forgotten Man Ministries to those who are incarcerated and to those living at the Muskegon Rescue Mission. He served as a deacon and an elder in several area churches, most recently at Cedar Creek Alliance Chapel located at 7193 Sweeter Road, Twin Lake, Michigan where a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, starting with Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Randy Blanchette officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Benevolence Fund at Cedar Creek Alliance Chapel.
