Joseph James Gabriel's Obituary
Joe passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at his happy place, the beloved lake house. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and community.
Joe retired from Brookhaven after serving as a Maintenance Supervisor. Joe's hobbies for nearly 30 years were refereeing and umpiring high school sports, known for his passion and integrity on the field. After hanging up the whistle, Joe took on the role of biggest fan, attending all his grandchildren's and "bonus" grandkids' sports and school events with unwavering support. Joe and his beloved Deb never missed a game or concert, always there to cheer and show their love.
Sunday dinners were among Joe's favorite times, bringing everyone together to create lasting memories. Whether gathering at the Hall Rd house, fondly referred to as "Mini Michigan Adventures," or enjoying days at the lake house wading in the water and relaxing on the beach, Joe treasured these moments with family.
For over 24 years, Joe and his family spent cherished time at Lakeshore Resort in Traverse City. Over the years, he developed a deep friendship and brotherhood with DeWayne Gordon, a bond that remained strong until Joe's last days.
Joe is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Deb, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Together, they raised three sons Joey, Adam, and Matt.
