I didn't know Sam as an adult. Rather, we go back more than a half century when Sam and I were young boys living in the Heights. We were great friends and had great times. We both played the cornet instrument, and I remember lazy afternoons spent on roof tops drinking large quantities of root beer until we were sick to our stomach, and looking down on the cars passing below. We thought we were on top of the world. Eventually his family moved to Lakeside which was too far for boys our age to keep in contact. So our lives took different paths never again to intersect. When I heard the sad news of his passing these memories came flooding back. Every boy needs a friendship and experiences like Sam and I had. They can stay with you a lifetime. Thanks Sam.
